Another Great, Safer Bath Toy from the 1.2.3. Line Jul 16, 2010 By goonius
When we found that Playmobil 123 had begun to produce a new line of bath toys, we were thrilled. It is so difficult to find bath toys that: 1. Identify the type of plastic used (in this case ABS), and 2. Are not made in China (this one is made in Malta, like much of Playmobil's toys).

Basically, this set consists of a little fisherman with no removable parts, an orca, weighted so that he floats with his tail end beneath the water, and a nice-sized boat, complete with a 3 x 4 grid of squares where parts from other Playmobil sets might be attached (ie. benches, flowers, cargo boxes), and a little loop in the front where one could presumably attach a pull-string.

The boat floats well; it's difficult to accidently overturn. The little fisherman clicks snugly into place standing upright, and the orca fits perfectly upon the boat, should he need a ride. I realize orcas don't ride on boats but in the play-pretend world of the bathtub, they apparently don't follow the rules of nature.

Lastly, the Playmobil 123 (and the regular Playmobil line, for kids 4+) stand up really well to being submerged in water. The water the people take on drains quickly, and unlike inferior bath toy materials, like vinyl (yuck), ABS does not hold mildew. The boat and orca are leak-proof. So, while it might be wise to clean any bath toy occasionally, these toys aren't inherently going to be reservoirs for foulness.

I'm really pleased with this one, but would advise there are more economical places to acquire it at the time of writing this review.

My grandson loves this toy. The captain and whale are interesting to play with. The boat allows him to use fine motor skills by replacing the captain in his chair and the whale in the boat. The colors encourage identification. A fun toy for in or out of the tub.
