5Great Toy for Little Builders  Nov 02, 2004 By B. Czwakiel
My 6 yr old LOVES this. He is very much into building things with blocks, legos, boxes and whatever he can. The best thing is that he can make ANYTHING, not just one thing. Dad does help him with putting it together, but it is a great activity for BOTH of them. I'm sure in time, my son won't need any help. The plastic materials are safe and sturdy. Very quality product! Very happy customers here!

5Excellent for development, and FUN for the child!  Dec 17, 2004 By Kate
My son and I love this toy! He will build "things" with it on his own, the pieces go together easily and in any combination he wants. When we play together we can build more elaborate trucks. The toy develops spacial relations as well as fine motor skills, but my son just thinks it's fun. He received it when he turned 5 and I am back for another set as he turns 6 so his creations can get bigger.

4Great for creative building but pieces are minimal. Screwdriver design is poor.  Jan 08, 2010 By JC
I think this erector set is wonderful for creative building. I don't mind that it is not metal as some complain, as my son is only 5. For those who prefer metal, they still make the metal erector set for older children. Once this arrived it came in a large bucket, but the pieces don't even fill it half way. This would be misleading if purchased in a store. 150 pieces seems like a lot but it's not that much (most of the pieces are nuts and screws), and even more disappointing when viewing the large bucket size in comparison. I do like the extra room however so that additional sets can be added to the same container. I am also disappointed that the screwdriver is not the same design shown on the packaging. On the container it appears as a classic and complete screwdriver, but the handle is actually a hollowed out half which is hard to hold. I wasn't even sure if it was the screwdriver at first; I thought for sure I had to find the other half and assemble it, but that is not the case...what it is, is what it is. Either way, my son does enjoy the set and it does have many creative opportunities. I will probably buy more sets so that more can be done with it, though the price is outrageous on all of these.

4Good toy for learnin  Feb 01, 2009 By Rob
I got this for my son's 7th birthday. I almost didn't because the picture they use (Eiffel Tower) makes it look like there aren't many pieces. The instructions have 6 models, all of which are fairly complicated and he needed help making them. Since then, he has made some things on his own that have looked pretty good. As an engineer, I like seeing him learn how things go together and what needs to be done to make things stable. He also got a bunch of lego sets around Christmas, but they can really on make what's on the box--the Erector set allows him to use his imagination. He hasn't used them much yet, but I think it's because there aren't that many pieces to work with. I'm looking at getting another set, or perhaps the mechanized version so he can see his creations move.

4Creative toy, perfect for 5 year old and his Dad.  Jan 18, 2009 By Fern Wishman "Happy Grandmother"
This was a fine toy for our grandson with a bit of help from his father (and they enjoyed doing it together)....I would recommend it for a child who is interested in putting things together...especially if he/she likes other building toys such as Lincoln Logs and Lego.
