5Wonderful blocks  Dec 19, 2011 By Odd Bird "Eccentric Woman"
I am always looking for classic, educational toys for my son that are made of non toxic products. Plan toys have been a hit every time so far. Their sustainabile manufacturing practices and reasonable prices makes them a favorite for me.

I originally bought my son Haba Blocks made of Beech wood from Germany . We have the Haba Fantasy Blocks, First Blocksand Haba Patience Blocks (3 pcs). They are each lovely, wonderfully made blocks, but at about $75 for less than 50 blocks, we werent building very much. My son loves to explore the beautiful Haba blocks, but I was on the search for a more reasonably priced alternative to build up our collection. I dont think the Plan Toys blocks made of rubberwood from Thailand are a whole lot cheaper, but they are somewhat so. These are well made, consistant good quality, well sanded/painted and look like they will be around a long time. There were only 2 blocks I took away from this set as they would pose a possible choking hazard to my little dragon.

The basic cube of these blocks is 35 mm and the basic cube in the Haba blocks is 4cm (40mm). So each block is a little smaller than a Haba block of the same type and these are much more simple blocks without all the fancy little details of the Haba blocks. For building stuff, these are awesome. I also ordered the PlanToys Plan Preschool 50 Unit Blocks at the same time. The unit blocks are HUGE but based on the same 35 mm cube. These Creative Blocks work fantastically as a set of smaller pieces to compliment the larger unit blocks. The only odd thing is the Plan Toys unit blocks match up with these as smaller components, but the unit blocks are unfinished and these have a coating of some kind of varnish or somethning. We also have two sets of Wonderworld blocks Wonderworld 50 Four Creativity Blocks Wonderworld Eco-Friendly 50 Piece Blocks Set, which I also like, but they are a little feminine IMO, but the wonderworld blocks come with a cool viariety of unique shapes that the other sets lacked. The Wonderworld blocks work a little better with the Haba blocks than these, but I still prefer the Plan toys blocks for building bigger stuff for my little dragon to come knock down. I have found that while none of the three brands are completely compatible, you can build with plan toys blocks and wonderworld blocks together with only a little extra effort to make them stack up nicely.

In hind sight now that I have all three brands, I'd say if you are super obsessive about only having one type of blocks that works with all the others, Id say go with the Haba. Youd have more options for the most variety available if you dont mind spending a little more money to get there. The quality is just amazing. If you want a more moderate collection with great building options, these are the blocks for you. If you are looking for very colorful blocks without building bigger structures and youd like a smaller price tag but still safe, enviornmentally friendly blocks, go with the Wonderworld blocks.

5Great for kids  May 10, 2009 By Guinness 4 Life
Our son loves these and can't destroy them in the least. The blocks also comes with some intersting educational material on how kids progress playing with their blocks. Great fun!

5good starter set for kids  Apr 23, 2009 By Goofball
Our son is turning two, really has enjoyed all the toys he has got from Plan Toy's, he especially likes puzzles and the blocks seem to be one big puzzle that doesn't repeat. Solid blocks, good company and don't seem like they will chip.

4AWESOME!  Oct 03, 2009 By Dawn M. Freeman
These blocks are very good quality, easy for toddlers to handle and are one of the first toys picked up when kids enter our playroom. I want to get the other sets!
Buy these blocks :)

5Two-year-old is a fan!  Aug 27, 2010 By erinsan
My godparents bought these for my two year old off his wishlist. I had read the reviews and was already a Plan Toys fan. These are by far the nicest blocks I've ever seen and have just made me a bigger Plan Toys fan!
They are SO smooth, and exactly the right size for building "big towers" by my two-year-old!
The number of blocks you get is good, too. I worried at first it was a small set, but my son thinks they are great! (And he does have other blocks that just sit in the toybox now!)
I can't say enough good things!
